NEWS from ST.MICHAELS 28 May 2010

Dear Friends,

Please note that our Sunday Worship takes place on 30 May 2010 at Carnell's Chapel on Freshwater Road at 10:00 a.m.

A Message from M&M to YOU!!

And God has appointed in the church apostles, prophets, teachers, miracles, and gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of languages. 1 Corinthians 12:28

Planning is an important aspect of any project. In the next few weeks we will need the help of many as we seek to garner opinions about the best way to proceed in our goal to relocate our Parish Family and begin the construction of a NEW St. Michael & All Angels Church facility on Kenmount Road.

M & M International, church fundraising specialists, will be here to interview a broad cross section of parishioners about our New Church Building from 3 to 8 of June 2010. You may be invited to participate!

If you are selected, an Invitation Letter and Case for Support will be mailed to you. Shortly after you’ve received the letter, a member from our parish will call you to schedule an interview at the Parish Office on St. Clare Avenue with a member of the M & M team.

Participating in a short 45 minute interview will benefit the parish and help us to plan for the work of renewing and renovating our spiritual home.

If you don’t receive an invitation you will still have an opportunity to help is and make your views known in an Open Forum scheduled for Saturday 5 June and Sunday 6 June at the Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin Church from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.. This Open Forum is for all parishioners of St. Michael & All Angels.

Your gift, helping us plan and sharing your views, is needed. Please consider our request.

Our Parish Organist
Our organist Brittany Pike attended the Halifax Youth Synod last weekend with 132 other young Christians from the Atlantic Provinces to learn about the Trinity, as well as worshipping and praising God. She was also asked to be a Youth Leader in which her duties were to open discussions, talk about their relationship with God, and to pray with the group. Brittany will be giving a report of her time in Halifax at this morning’s Liturgy.

Congratulations Father Murray!
Our Honourary Assistant priest, Canon Murray Randell will celebrate his 49th Anniversary to the Sacred Priesthood on June 4 (50 years as a Deacon). We extend our prayers and best wishes to Father Murray on his anniversary!

TIFFANY VILLAGE HOLY EUCHARIST. Fr. Sam will be celebrating the Holy Eucharist at Tiffany Village this Tuesday 1 June at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to worship with the residents.

Ordination - Bishop Cyrus Pitman is pleased to announce that there will be an ordination at the Cathedral on Monday, May 31st at 7:00 p.m. At this time Mr. Paul Rideout and Mr. Robert Cooke will be ordained to the Diaconate. Please keep Paul & Robert in your prayers.

NEXT SUNDAY, we will celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ). This is a feast whose purpose is to honour the Eucharist, and as such it does not commemorate a particular event in Jesus' life. Its celebration on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday is meant to associate it with Jesus' institution of the Eucharist during the Last Supper, on Maundy Thursday. Because of the sorrow of Holy Week, no festivals are celebrated within it; the Thursday after Trinity Sunday is the first Thursday after Holy Week, Eastertide, and the Octave of Pentecost have ended. In most English-speaking countries, Corpus Christi is transferred to the Sunday after Trinity Sunday. At the end of the Mass, it is customary in many places to have a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament (often outdoors) followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. In the Church of England Corpus Christi is known as "The Day of Thanksgiving for the Institution of Holy Communion (Corpus Christi)" and has the status of a Festival. In medieval times in many parts of Europe Corpus Christi was a popular time for the performance of mystery plays.
